About 200 sheep and goats are feared to have been perished in lightning in Runukothi area and Darwin far-flung area of Bharmour tribal terrain of Chamba district today, an official report received here said.
The report revealed that according to preliminary information, the lightning struck the herds of sheep and goats on the high-altitude belts of Runukothi and Darwin where the shepherds used to graze their livestock.
Chamba Deputy Commissioner Sudesh Mokhta has directed the officials of revenue, police and animal husbandry departments to rush to the incident site and take stock of the situation.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the teams of officials to assess the exact losses caused and provide immediate relief to the affected shepherds of these areas as per the relief manual.
