15 hurt as vehicle falls into gorge

At least, 15 persons were injured when a vehicle in which they travelling in rolled into a gorge on the Jajrala road at Nairki in Shahpur last evening. The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Shahpur, and Tanda medical college.

The vehicle was carrying 20 persons. The driver lost control of the vehicle. Among the 15 injured were five women and three children.

Congress leader Kewal Singh Pathania along with some Congress activists today visited the hospital to enquire about the injured.

Pathania expressed resentment that when the injured were rushed to Public Health Centre (PHC) Ridikmar, which was near the site of the accident, it was found locked. He alleged that the ambulance was not available there and was stationed at the Shahpur hospital.

He demanded that the ambulance should be stationed at PHC-Ridikmar to help people of this remote area. He also demanded an inquiry as to why the PHC Ridikmar was locked on Tuesday evening when the accident took place

Chief Medical Officer, Kangra, Dr Gurdharshan Gupta said that there was only one doctor and a pharmacist to run the Public Health Centre. He said one post of doctor was lying vacant and as soon as another doctor is posted there, this PHC will be run 24x7.
