Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today announced that 1,000 posts of constables would be filled and one promotion would be given to the police three months before retirement till the inspector level.

Thakur, who presided over the Himachal Pradesh Police Raising Day on The Ridge, here also announced to give a special medal to all police employees on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the HP Police. 

He said the police played a vital role in maintaining peace and added that they had been performing its duties with responsibility and rendering valuable services to the state. 

Himachal was the first state to implement the Emergency Response Support System, he said, adding that the government had equipped the department with modern information tools to ensure better performance and improved skills. 

The government was giving priority to women safety and for this purpose, Gudiya Helpline 1515 and Shakti Button Application had been launched. He asked the department to keep a strict vigil on drug abuse activities, especially among the youth so that they do not fall prey to addiction. 

Later, the Chief Minister presented a prize to the police mahila contingent for being the best marching contingent and other contingents were also honoured. 

Director General of Police SR Mardi welcomed Thakur and highlighted the main activities and programmes being carried out by the department. A colourful programme was presented by the police personnel. 

Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj, Industries Minister Bikram Singh, Mayor Kusum Sadret, Himfed Chairman Ganesh Dutt, Chief Secretary Dr Shrikant Baldi, Principal Secretary to the CM Sanjay Kundu, former Governor of Nagaland and former DGPs, Himachal Pradesh, Ashwani Kumar, IB Negi,  RR Verma and other senior police officers were present.
