Ruling out anti-incumbency, Congress senior leader Anand Sharma said he was confident of the party victory in the Assembly elections.

“The Modi government has failed on all fronts. Its ‘mindless’ policies have pushed the country into deep economic crisis and the people are feeling betrayed. They will certainly teach the government a lesson now,” said the former minister.

“Now, they know who to choose,” he added. The Congress senior leader said the poll plank would be development. Encouraged by an overwhelming response at his rallies in Ghumarwin (Bilaspur) and Nadaun (Hamirpur), the former minister said Modi had been exposed and the people had pinned hopes on the Congress to bail them out.

“We (Congress) have renowned ‘arthshastri’ (economist) Dr Manmohan Singh and the BJP has ‘pracharshastri’, whose only work is to make false promises, fool people and use all unfair means to win the elections,” said Anand Sharma.

Seeing the ‘mindless’ policy decisions, Dr Manmohan Singh had already predicted that the country’s GDP would fall by 2 per cent and it happened. The country suffered a loss of Rs 3.50 lakh crore. For the GST, the Congress had recommended a total of three slabs. The highest slab was of 18 per cent tax. “The BJP imposed six slabs and the highest slab is 28 per cent. The result is in front of us. The poor are finding it hard to make ends meet.” Targeting the BJP for currency ban, Anand Sharma said the move had left 86 per cent people moneyless. On the government’s promise of creating 7 crore jobs per year, he said the BJP had failed to touch the 7-lakh mark.
