“Gudiya – Unsuni Cheekh” (unheard shrieks), a book on the agony which refuses to die down even after the Kotkhai rape victim's death, was released by her father on The Ridge here on Friday.

The 155-page book authored by Ashwani Sharma and Tanuja Thapta and edited by Deepak Sundarial under the banner of the Madad Seva Trust symbolises the trauma which the victim's family and friends had to go through.

“After the incident, any father in the “Dev Bhumi” would hardly like to name his daughter Gudiya as the name itself unfolds the horrifying tale of how the rape of the minor remained an unsolved mystery and lost forever in the forests of Dandi. This would never be forgotten even if we make endless efforts get past it,” say the authors in the introductory remarks.

It speaks about the “negative role” of the police in the investigation, especially the custodial death of Suraj, one of the accused arrested earlier by the Special Investigating Team (SIT), various theories that erupted during the course of investigation and how people responded to the tragedy and media trial. — TNS
