Panipat, January 18

A 20-year-old youth was shot dead at Arjun Nagar here on Thursday night. The police suspect the killing was a result of an old enmity between gangs of criminals. The incident was recorded in a CCTV camera installed at a building near the crime spot.

The police have booked Meeta, Tinku, Bittu Langra, Neeraj and an unidentified accused in the case. The body of the deceased was handed over to the relatives after the post-mortem examination.

The relatives of the deceased blocked the traffic on NH-44 for around 15 minutes following delay in the post-mortem examination. The police reached the spot and pacified the protesters.

Nitin, the deceased, hailed from Piplikhera village of Gannaur, was living in Arjun Nagar on the Kabri road.

The police registered the case on Friday morning on the complaint of Rajrani, Nitin’s mother. Inspector Yogesh Kataria, SHO, Model Town, said, “The possibilities of gang war cannot be ruled out as the deceased was also involved in similar activities.”

Neeraj of Kami village in Sonepat was associated with the Sundra gang, said Kataria. Police sources said Nitin had been having some feud with Meeta of Kabri village on social media over the last three months. It was also suspected that Meeta had given money to the Sundra gang of Sonepat for Nitin’s murder. — TNS
