Karnal, April 20

The Taraori Market Committee has suspended the licences of nine commission agents for allegedly procuring wheat from Uttar Pradesh.

“I have suspended nine licences in the past two days for procuring wheat from UP,” said Gaurav Arya, secretary, Market Committee, Taraori.

Meanwhile, Karnal Market Committee secretary Zile Singh seized four canters of wheat from the mandi and issued notices to four commission agents on Friday. Action would be initiated if the wheat was found to be of the traders, he said.

According to sources, the district authorities have imposed a ban on the arrival of wheat from UP, but some traders are bringing it from the neighbouring state at low price and selling the crop in various grain markets in the name of farmers.

Meanwhile, farmers led by BKU state president Rattan Mann held a protest after the authorities stopped some farmers at the Haryana-UP border for bringing wheat from UP.

Mann said that farmers should not be stopped for bringing wheat from UP and urged the authorities to ensure a complete ban on arrival of wheat from UP by the traders.

Expedite lifting of wheat: CM

Chandigarh: The Chief Minister directed DCs on Friday to expedite the process of lifting of wheat from mandis. He also directed them to keep an eye on the vehicles coming from neighbouring states to check the procurement of wheat from other states. It should be ensured that wheat of Haryana farmers was procured first, he stated.
