Water entered houses in several colonies of the town following a heavy rainfall on Sunday. Residents of Amarpuri Colony, Tilak Nagar, Sasauli road, Railway Colony, Gobind Puri and Camp area spent most of the day draining out water from their houses.

Roads were submerged in several colonies, including Sector 17, Gandhi Nagar, Joginder Nagar, Professor Colony, Shanti Nagar, Gobindpura and Lajpat Nagar.

“We are forced to stay indoors as streets are waterlogged,” said Satish Kumar of Professor Colony.

At Kamani Chowk, several vehicles, including an Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus, were stuck in water. The bus was pulled out with the help of a crane.

Rain started on the night of Saturday and continued throughout the day on Sunday. The maximum rainfall of 144 mm was recorded in Radaur, followed by 142 mm in Chhachhrauli, 93 mm in Bilaspur, 90 mm in Jagadhri, 78 mm in Saraswati Nagar and 45 mm in Sadhaura.

Due to a heavy rainfall, trees were uprooted at several places. On Bilaspur-Sadhaura road, an uprooted tree blocked the way from where the Jan Ashirwad Yatra of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was to pass. On getting information, Deputy Commissioner Mukul Kumar and Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh reached the spot and got the tree removed.
