Hisar, January 3

A migrant girl, who was allegedly forced to “marry” a local youth, was badly injured when she tried to escape her tormentors by jumping off the first floor of a house in Bhiwani. The girl, aged 15, is admitted to the Civil Hospital with injuries in both legs.

A case of rape, illegal confinement, child trafficking, child marriage and various provisions of the SC/ST Act has been registered against her “husband” Sandeep and his mother Shakuntala Devi. Both of them have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

The girl told the police that her uncle brought her to Bhiwani and sold to a family for Rs 2 lakh a few months ago. She alleged her uncle had also tried to sell her to two other persons while they were on way to Bhiwani in a train. Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairperson Subhash Jindal said they had deputed an attended to look after the girl at the Civil Hospital. He said the girl was brought here over two months ago and kept in confinement after “marriage”.

The family used to keep the doors and windows locked to keep her indoors. She managed to flee when she found one of the windows open on Tuesday. In her attempt to flee, she suffered injuries in her both legs. He said the girl was a student of class IX at a school in Odisha.

DSP Virender Singh said a case had been registered and her family informed. One of her family members would arrive here tomorrow. The case would be taken forward after the girl’s family produced documents as regards her age etc. — TNS
