Two sisters reportedly died of dengue during treatment at a private hospital in the town on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Komal, a student of class VIII, and Anchal, a student of class V. They were studying in Vishwas Senior Secondary School in the town.

Their father Rameshwar said they had been admitted to Jindal hospital for some days after they contracted dengue.

School principal Dinesh Kumar informed the media here that the two students had not been attending school due to fever for about a week. Today, their parents informed the school authorities about their death at the hospital.

“We observed a condolence meeting at the school and shut the school for the day,” the principal said. Ateam of the Health Department visited the school premises later in the day, he added.

District malaria officer Dr Jaya Goyal said that they had sent the team for checking and fogging in the school. But they found no larvae of dengue on the premises.

She said that she got information about the death of the two girls but could not confirm those to be dengue deaths. She admitted that 204 dengue cases have been confirmed in the town.

The administrator of Jindal hospital, Dr Shiv Kumar Singhal, said that he was out of station and could not confirm about the incident.

On calling up the hospital inquiry, the hospital employee on duty refused to confirm that the deaths had been caused by dengue.

Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Meena stated that he could not confirm the cause of the children’s death as he was in a ‘ratri thahrao’ (night stay) in a village of the district.
