Two youths from Patran town in Patiala district, who had come here looking for some business during the Phalgu Mela beginning September 25, were drowned in a canal on Friday. The body of one of them was brought out of the canal with the help of villagers.
Subhash Sheokand, SHO, Pundri, said Pardeep, Kaka and Anil from Patran town had come to select a site for doing business during the mela. On their way back on Friday evening, they thought of having a bath in the canal. Kaka jumped into the canal and when he felt he was drowning he caught hold of a leg of Pardeep and both were swept away. Anil raised the alarm and with the help of nearby villagers brought Pardeep (30) out but he was already dead. Kaka’s body could not be traced till afternoon, the SHO added.
He said an inquest report under Section 174 of the Cr.PC has been prepared in the case. The retrieved body was handed over to the aggrieved family after a post-mortem at the Civil Hospital here on Saturday.
