The CIA unit of the district police today arrested two youths on the charge of looting the strongroom of a local branch of ICICI Bank on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The money was recovered from the accused — Praveen of Kailana village and Pawan of Bega village.

On February 15, bank manager Thakur Dutt had lodged a police complaint that unidentified persons stole Rs 57.5 lakh from the bank.

The CIA unit led by Inspector Indeevar arrested the accused and recovered Rs 56.5 lakh from them.

Indeevar said Praveen had joined the bank as a helper three months ago and he had access to every part of the bank, including the strongroom.

The police said that after 15 days plotting, Praveen and Pawan entered the bank from a door on the roof, which was kept unbolted by Praveen. “The accused will be produced in court tomorrow. Their police custody will be sought,” the CIA Inspector said.
