Faridabad, January 18

The police today arrested the third accused involved in the gangrape of a 23-year-old woman after abducting her from the Old Faridabad Chowk on January 13.

Two of the accused were nabbed by the police yesterday. The fourth accused, who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crime, was yet to be arrested.

A police spokesperson said the third accused, identified as Ashok, alias Kale (23), a resident of Haat Bazaar locality in Punhana town of Nuh district, was arrested around noon.

Clues regarding his whereabouts were given by the two accused already arrested. The two accused, Sanjeev and Arshad, were nabbed from Jurhera village in Rajasthan following a tip-off. The unnumbered Scorpio used for the crime had also been recovered. The vehicle belonged to Sanjeev (25), who was married and had two children.

Sanjeev told the police that he had come to get his vehicle serviced at the agency on January 13 with three of his friends.

They consumed liquor in the evening and started roaming. Around 6:30 pm, they noticed a woman waiting for someone with mobile phone in her hand near Old Faridabad Chowk.

They pulled the girl inside before anyone could notice and sped away towards the bypass road to reach the National Highway near Palwal.

The three accused raped her inside the moving vehicle and dropped her near a petrol pump at Seekri village around 9:30 pm. The two arrested yesterday were remanded in judicial custody by a local court today. Sanjeev was self-employed engaged in supply of dairy products.

They told the police that they used to move to Rajasthan during the day and visit their homes at night to evade arrest as they had come to know from media reports that the police were looking out for them.
