Hisar, July 11

The police on Wednesday registered a case against a tehsildar after a verbal duel between him and an advocate in the tehsildar’s chamber led to a scuffle.

The police also arrested private school principal Haripal Pilania who allegedly assisted tehsildar Vinay Chaudhary and assaulted the advocate during the scuffle.

The incident occurred when advocate Anuj Gupta along with two other lawyers came to the tehsildar’s chamber to discuss a land dispute pending with the tehsildar’s court.

The discussion got heated up over the fixation of the hearing date in the case and led to a scuffle between them. Pilania, who was also sitting in the chamber, intervened and assaulted the lawyer.

The entire scene was captured by the CCTV camera installed in the tehsildar’s office.

The police registered a case against tehsildar and his aide under Sections 323 (causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 294 (obscene acts and songs) of the IPC. Pilania was arrested and produced in court which sent him to one-day judicial remand.

The tehsildar too has lodged a complaint against the advocate and his aides, charging them with obstructing him from performing his duty.

Sandeep Kumar, SHO, Civil Lines, said that the police would take action following preliminary investigation into the complaint.

Meanwhile, the District Bar Association and District Revenue Officials Association are on a collision course on the issue. The bar association in a meeting on Wednesday condemned the incident and demanded the arrest of the tehsildar.

Bar association president Pradeep Bazia said that they would observe strike on Thursday and hold a meeting on Friday to chalk out the further course of action.
