Take steps to prevent floods, officers told

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has directed officers of the Irrigation Department to coordinate with their counterparts in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, themselves on the rise in the level of river waters, and complete before June 30 all arrangements for avoiding the danger of possible floods during the monsoon season.

The Haryana Government has directed officers of the Irrigation Department to coordinate with their counterparts in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, update themselves on the rise in the level of river waters, and complete before June 30 all arrangements for avoiding the danger of possible floods during the monsoon season.

Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Keshni Anand Arora issued the directions here on Sunday. She asked senior officers to remain in touch with the Central Ground Water Board and Meteorological Department, Army, Air Force and the NDRF.

Arora was presiding over a meeting of officers regarding the possibility of flood situation during the monsoon season in Yamunanagar district. She took stock of the arrangements and steps taken in this regard.

She asked senior officers to keep a watch on the steps being taken for flood control works. They were directed to strengthen their information system and give information regarding the rising water level in rivers on time. — TNS
