Shooter Ankur Mittal, who won bronze in double trap competition in the Commonwealth Games (CWG), was accorded a warm welcome at his native village Bhatgaon in the district on Sunday.

Rohtak MP Rohtak Deepender Singh Hooda, Congress MLAs Jagbir Singh Malik and Jaiveer Singh Balmiki, and Chief Minister’s media adviser Rajiv Jain were among those who welcomed him.

Deepender said sportspersons from Haryana had made history in the CWG and the people of the country in general and of Haryana in particular were proud of them.

“The state government should reward CWG winners and participants in accordance with their performance,” he said and claimed performance in the CWG was a result of the pro-sports policy (‘Padak Lao, Pad Pao’) of the previous Bhupinder Singh Hooda government.

Jain claimed the state government had introduced incentives and cash rewards for the sportspersons as per their performance in national and international events. “A sports university is in the pipeline,” he said.

Ankur took a round of the village in an open jeep and assured people of bettering his performance.
