In order to ensure adequate availability of good-quality seeds of all foodgrains as well as other crops in the state, the Haryana Government will have a new Seed Act, the first of its kind in the country. A Seed Bill will be tabled during the next session of the state Assembly.

This was stated by Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar while talking to mediapersons after inaugurating the building of a seed-testing laboratory here today.

“Apart from ensuring easy availability of quality seeds, the new Act will have a provision for substantial fine and strict punishment for those indulging in sale and supply of fake or spurious seeds,” the minister maintained.

He disclosed that Haryana Agricultural University in Hisar would have a state-of-the-art laboratory with the facility of genetic testing of seeds. Seed laboratories would be set up in all districts of the state, he stated.

Dhankar, who also has the portfolio of Animal Husbandry and Dairies, attended a convention of the Diploma Veterinary Association, Haryana.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, he called for strengthening of the white revolution by ensuring good health and milk yield of cattle.

Advocating the consumption of cow milk, the minister maintained that it was beneficial for human health and people who consumed cow milk never had heart attack.

“One should have cow milk and ghee if he or she wanted to remain healthy, slim and mentally sound,” he pointed out.
