Soon, landfill site to have boundary wall, cameras

The Municipal Council, Bahadurgarh, has chalked out a plan to ensure proper disposal of garbage at the landfill site located on the Badli road near Soldha village in Bahadurgarh town here.

It has not only decided to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras but also to depute a guard after constructing a room for him at the site in order to stop those who burn industrial waste and garbage there in violation of rules.

 A gate at the entrance would also be set up so that no one could enter without permission, say sources.

Sources say that the development came some days after Bhura Lal, Chairman, Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA), visited Bahadurgarh town and expressed dissatisfaction over the “lack” of adequate arrangements for garbage disposal at the site. He even reprimanded MC officials for burning waste there.

Lal paid the visit after The Tribune raised the issue in these columns exposing a serious threat to the environment due to burning of solid waste at the site. The problems being faced by the people residing nearby due to improper treatment of garbage were also highlighted. Residents of Naya Gaon, Soldha and Jagatpur villages were adversely affected by the dumping ground as garbage was burnt there in violation of norms leading to air pollution.

“Though the villagers had blocked the Bahadurgarh-Badli road and lodged a complaint with the authorities against the practice of burning solid waste, the situation remained unchanged. Now, we are hopeful that our problems will be redressed when the municipal authority executes its plan,” said Parveen Kumar, a local resident.

Apoorav Choudhary, Executive Officer (EO), Municipal Council, Bahadurgarh, said the tender for the construction of the boundary wall of the dumping site has been floated while machines have been arranged to level out heaps of garbage at the site before February 28.

He maintained action would also be taken against those running commercial activities on agricultural land.
