Solar power systems in govt schools soon

CHANDIGARH: The state government has decided to install hybrid solar systems in all government schools of the state in a phased manner.

The state government has decided to install hybrid solar systems in all government schools of the state in a phased manner. To begin with, the solar systems would be installed in 3,222 government high and senior secondary schools at a cost of Rs 236.57 crore.

Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said here today that Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had approved a proposal in this regard.

Sharma said the solar systems to be installed in the schools would have a battery bank for uninterrupted supply of power in schools.

He said the central assistance of 30 per cent which was on reimbursement basis would provide assistance in fulfilling the gap of the additional burden of Rs 110 crore to provide the battery bank. — TNS
