The spat between Health Minister Anil Vij and Fatehabad SP Sangeeta Kalia during a meeting of the District Grievances and Public Relations Committee here on Friday is drawing sharp comments from both sides on Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp. Kalia has since been transferred from Fatehabad and posted as Commandant, 4th IRB, Manesar.

A news report on the matter published in The Tribune has evoked nearly 500 likes, over 100 comments and an equal number of shares on Facebook. Some of them found faults with both Vij and Kalia, some others stood by Vij and others supported the young IPS officer.

“Unprecedented things are happening in this BJP government. something must be seriously wrong,” said Atul Kumar on Facebook.

Manmohan Pahwa, an orthopedic surgeon wrote, “Salutes to honest police officer.” Dharampal Jakhal, president of the Fatehabad District Bar Association, retorted:” Is Vij saab not honest?”

Promila Dhaka, a former Air Force officer, tweeted from her Twitter handle @PilotDhaka, “I found both of them disrespectful to each other.”

“Well done SP Sangeeta Kalia. The Haryana ministers should learn to behave properly, if not decently,” wrote RSD Bansal, a lawyer in the district courts at Sirsa.

“Hail the brave daughter of a painter. Wish I were her father. Then I would be doubly proud. As it is i share the pride with her parents. Date raho Sangeeta beta. Best wishes,” said veteran journalist Raman Mohan on Facebook. Chander Suta Dogra, another senior journalist said, “Kudos to the young police officer.”

“Is video mai SP madam ne thik kaha hai k hum kisi ko jaan se to nahi maar sakte. Bail le kar wo aadmi phir crime karne lag jaata hai. (The SP is right to say the police cannot kill someone. Criminals resume their activities after coming out on bail),” wrote Nirmal Singh Virk on Facebook.

Some like Jasbeer Singh are blunt in criticism. “Gunda gardi krda he ladies naal gl krn da pta nhi (They are indulging in hooliganism and do not know how to interact with a woman).”

Shyam Sahni, head of a media cell of the district Congress, said on Facebook: “I salute the brave daughter of Haryana Sangeeta Kalia.”

He has uploaded on Facebook the video of the spat between Vij and Kalia.

There are many who are supporting Vij for listening to the voice of common man. “I salute the minister. Now I could say that at least there is someone who listens to the grievances of common man and takes action,” one Vinod Chauhan said on FB.

One Ashwani Sadaran remarked that the minister sought SP’s response on action against the liqour mafia and the SP said they (cops) could not do anything. “We should not always criticise politicians and should sometime notice the activities of officers who refuse to work,” he said. Vinod Sharma, however, said she had disobeyed a minister which was misconduct for a government servant.

Vij, meanwhile, tweeted in the morning and wrote on his Facebook page he was ready to make any sacrifice to get justice to people hassled by those in authority.

NCSC to send notice to Chief Secretary

Kurukshetra: The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has decided to send a notice to Haryana Chief Secretary DS Dhesi to inquiry into a spat between Health Minister Anil Vij and Fatehabad SP Sangeeta Kalia during a meeting of the District Grievances and Public Relations Committee on Friday. “The notice will be sent on Monday and the Chief Secretary will be directed to submit his report within seven days,” NCSC member Ishwar Singh told the media here today. The NCSC, he said, had taken note of the incident, wherein the minister has asked the SP to get out of the meeting. “The SP is a Dalit. To insult a Dalit in a panchayat or a public place is an offence under Section 338 of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. The commission has the power to file an FIR,” Singh said. “If the police officer had done something wrong, the minister should have given a notice to her and taken action as per rules. Instead, the minister not only insulted the officer in the presence of other officers, but also disrespected the oath taken at the swearing-in ceremony,” he added. —TNS
