A 35-year-old manager working with an automobile showroom was shot dead by unidentified car-borne assailants on the bypass here on Wednesday morning. The killers drove away after the incident.

The victim was identified as Pravin Kumar of Hirapur village in the district. The incident took place around 9 am when he was on way to his office in Sikri village.

Several rounds were fired at him by some assailants who were driving parallel to him in another car on the bypass near Kelly village.

Shot in the head, Pravin lost control over the wheel. His vehicle veered off the road and hit a pole. As he fell unconscious, some commuters and passersby rushed to his help.

Before anyone could note down the registration number of the assailants’ car, they drove away from the spot. The victim was rushed to a hospital in Sector 8, where he was declared brought dead.

The Commissioner of Police and other senior police officers were on the hospital premises in connection with a programme on drug abuse when the victim was brought to the hospital.

Pravin’s kin met the Commissioner of Police and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits. The police registered a case and launched a hunt to arrest the assailants.

Claiming that the victim did not have enmity with anyone, Manoj Kumar, brother of the deceased, said recent developments at his office could have been the reason behind the incident.
