Schools with dismal result told to improve

The heads of the schools in the state will have to ensure a strategy for the remaining period of the current session so as to bring improvement in the results.

Additional Chief Secretary (School Education) PK Das said this while presiding over a meeting of the heads of the schools, which scored less than 10 per cent result during the Class X examination of session 2017-18 here on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by heads of schools of Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panipat, Sonepat, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Hisar, Fatehabad, Jind and Charkhi Dadri districts.

The heads had been directed to bring annual examination result for Class IX for session 2017-18 and half-yearly examination result of Class X, time table of school as well as list of vacancies of the school in the meeting.

Das directed that emphasis should be made on that part of the syllabus specifically, on the basis of which students can easily get pass percentage.

Earlier, Das discussed this matter with Chairman, Haryana School Education Board, Jagbir Singh and Secretary Manoj Kumar also. He said some changes would be made in the format of the examination to include multiple choices and short-type questions. It would not only reduce the tendency of copying, but would also increase the confidence of children. Das said the heads should try to bring improvement in pass percentage and after that efforts should be made to improve the average performance.

Director General (Secondary Education) Rakesh Gupta said during 2017-18, the number of schools which scored between 0 to 10 per cent results, in Classes X and XII were 121 and 10, respectively.

Heads of schools with poor performance are expected to bring 30 to 40 per cent improvement in the examination results in their respective schools during upcoming examinations. The result targets for schools of the state were fixed with result of Class X to be improved from 44 per cent to 65 per cent and of Class XII examination from 64 per cent to 85 per cent, he added.
