To promote tourism, the state government has decided to start boating from Jyotisar to Pipli in the Sarsawati river in Kurukshetra.
Thanesar MLA Subhash Sudha said efforts were being made to develop a Saraswati site at Pipli. In the first phase of the project, boating would be introduced over a stretch of 1.5 km (from Pipli to Kheri Markanda village). A consultancy firm has been invited and after consulting experts, the design of the project would be prepared. It is expected to cost around Rs 100 crore and it would be given to the Irrigation Department for completion.
The MLA said after the completion of the first phase from Pipli to Kheri Markanda, it would be extended to the Jyotisar ‘tirtha’. Besides developing ghats, the government would also set up open gyms and a cafeteria.
A few months ago, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had visited the Saraswati site from Pipli to Jyotisar and the proposal to start boating was discussed in detail.
A proposal was made before the Chief Minister that if the Saraswati was widened and clean water started flowing, pilgrims would be able to visit the pilgrimages falling on the banks of the river. The project would not only ensure the development of the pilgrimages, but also enhance tourism in Kurukshetra.
Sudha said the state government had been working on different projects to develop Kurukshetra as a major tourist destination on the world map. “The Centre has already included Kurukshetra under the Krishna circuit programme for which a budget of Rs 97.50 crore has been released already. It will be used for different works at Brahma Sarovar, Sannihit Sarovar and other religious places,” she said.
