Yamunanagar, July 26

The CIA-II of the Yamunanagar police have arrested four persons, including an advocate, for the murder of RSS leader Ravish Kamboj. Kuldeep, a resident of Bhukri village, Monti, a resident of Mali Majra village, and Pappan Rana, a resident of Amadalpur village, were today produced before Judicial Magistrate (first class), Jagadhri, Pratibha Mehla, who sent them to police custody for a day. Advocate Virender Singh Kamboj, aka Monu, a resident of Mali Majra village, was produced at the house of the duty magistrate last night, who sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.

Ravish Kamboj, a resident of Mali Majra village in the district, was killed with sharp-edged weapons last Sunday night. His body was found lying in sugarcane fields in nearby Amadalpur village on Monday morning. He was Khand Shareerik Pramukh of the RSS in the district.

Ravish’s father Baljeet Singh has alleged that they have an old rivalry over some issue with another family of their village. Members of the rival family along with others killed Ravish.

The police had booked advocate Virender Singh Kamboj, aka Monu, Monti, Pappan and Nikhil, a resident of Bhukri village, under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC.

Members of the District Bar Association, Jagadhri (Yamunanagar), blocked the national highway in front of the district judicial complex here yesterday to protest the detention of advocate Virender in the murder case. They lifted the blockade after SP Rajesh Kalia assured a delegation of the Bar of a fair investigation in the case. However, after the meeting, the police arrested advocate Virender and produced him at the house of the duty magistrate at night. The duty magistrate sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.

The police have also changed an accused in the case. Earlier, Nikhil’s name was mentioned in the FIR and the police also arrested him. But later the police released him and arrested Kuldeep of the same Bhukri village.

Sandeep Kumar, in charge, CIA-II, said Nikhil was released because he was wrongly arrested while Kuldeep was the real accused.

Meanwhile, members of the District Bar Association, Jagadhri, led by district president Vijay Gautam, observed a strike today and did not perform court work in protest against the arrest of advocate Virender.
