Rs 30-crore paintings seized from Bishnoi

NEW DELHI: The Income Tax (I-T) Department has seized paintings worth Rs 30 crore in connection with tax evasion and benami assets probe against Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi, official sources said on Friday.

The Income Tax (I-T) Department has seized paintings worth Rs 30 crore in connection with tax evasion and benami assets probe against Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi, official sources said on Friday.

They said the paintings by renowned artists were put under restraint after raids were conducted by the Delhi wing against Bishnoi and his family in July.

These paintings had now been seized under provisions of the I-T Act as the source of their investment and purchase could not be explained by the assessee, the sources said.

Apart from the paintings, the probe against the Adampur MLA had so far led to seizure of assets worth more than Rs 32 crore. The sources said undisclosed foreign assets worth over Rs 200 crore had been detected till now. — PTI
