Two leopards – a four-year-old Varsha and a three-and-a-half-year-old Pawan — have been brought to a zoo located adjacent to Tilyar Lake-cum-tourist complex on the outskirts of the city.
“The pair of breed-able leopards has been received from Nawab Wazid Ali Shah Zoological Garden, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, under the animal exchange programme after the approval of the Central Zoo Authority,” said Deepak Alwadhi, District Wildlife Officer, Rohtak.
Three lion cubs, one male and two females, brought from Pipli zoo after they were abandoned by their mother, are also being reared at the Rohtak zoo. They will be made available for public viewing soon.
“The zoo is being renovated and a life-size sculpture of a lion will be installed atop a 50-ft-high pole at the entrance of the zoo,” the officer said.
The zoo is all set to have a new look with a newly designed entrance plaza, a souvenir shop, a selfie point, a parking lot and an eating joint to attract more visitors. New bird aviaries and enclosures for animals are being constructed.
