A 62-year-old woman was murdered at her residence in Pehowa on Sunday night. The deceased, identified as Usha Gupta, used to stay alone. The matter came to light when a relative reached her house to meet her.

In his complaint, Sachin Mittal stated that Usha Gupta retired as principal of a government school in 2016. On Sunday, her nephew Monu, a resident of Kaithal, reached Pehowa to meet her and found the house locked from inside.

As there was no response, he informed other relatives, who arrived around 8 pm. After they entered the house after climbing the gate, they found her dead in her bedroom. Her throat had been slit and there were nearly 15 marks of a sharp-edged weapon on her body.

Her son Yogesh was lodged in jail under the NDPS Act. A case was registered against unidentified persons at the Pehowa police station.

“She used to live alone as her husband and a son had died a few years ago. Her second son is in jail. It seems that someone killed her due to enmity. Footage of CCTV cameras near her house is being checked and teams have been formed to nab the accused. She was cremated after her son got bail,” said SHO Malkit Singh.
