Rohtak, November 13

The state government has sanctioned a refined sugar plant for the Rohtak sugar mill, with which the mill will be able to produce sulfur-free sugar. The work on the project, which entails an estimated expenditure of Rs 17 crore, will begin soon. An ethanol plant will also be established at the mill.

This was stated by Minister of State for Cooperatives Manish Grover while addressing a gathering of farmers and other stakeholders at the commencement of the 63rd cane-crushing session on the premises of the Haryana Cooperative Sugar Mill located in Bhali Anandpur village of Rohtak on Tuesday.

The minister said Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had sanctioned Rs 1,100 crore to augment the capacity of the state sugar mills.

“The state sugar mills crushed record 500 lakh quintals of sugarcane in the last session,” Grover said, maintaining the work of cane-crushing would begin at all cooperative sugar mills of the state this month.

RS Verma, managing director, Haryana Sugarfed, said cane-crushing had started at all sugar mills in the state except the Sonepat and Gohana mills. He claimed that the Haryana farmers were getting the maximum price for sugarcane.

Pradeep Ahlawat, Rohtak sugar mill managing director, revealed that a 16-MW turbine had been installed at the mill to produce electricity, adding that electricity worth Rs 12.92 crore had been supplied by the mill.
