Gurugram, February 23

A property dealer was allegedly gunned down by unidentified assailants on the Sohna road here on Friday night.

The accused reportedly came in an I20 car and shot Vijay Batra, alias Tantrik, dead near Pasharvnath Society. According to the police, Vijay, a resident of Park View, was allegedly involved in gambling and betting.

However, the family has named gangster Kaushal and his gang as key suspects in the case. Sources said the victim’s wife had alleged that he was getting extortion calls for Rs 25 lakh from the gang.

A police officer said that the victim was involved in financial dealings with the Kaushal gang in past and there was no concrete evidence so far about the extortion calls or gang’s involvement in the crime. “Circumstantial evidence hints that Vijay was called outside by somebody known to him. He left his house saying that he was going out for a post-dinner drive but never returned. We have taken CCTV footage of the area into out possession,” he added.

Commissioner of Police KK Rao said, “We have some major leads and prima facie it appears to be an outcome of financial dispute in gambling or betting. We have identified some accused and they will be nabbed soon.”
