Fatehabad, November 29

The police have started a probe after four Facebook pages by the name of former Fatehabad SP Sangeeta Kalia cropped up overnight on the social networking site without her knowledge.

“I am surprised who has created these pages overnight. In one of these, I have been shown as having been posted at Panchkula while I have never been stationed there. I have asked the police to probe the matter since this can be misused. I make it clear I am not on Facebook or any other social networking site and whatever pages have been made in my name are fake,” Sangeeta Kalia said when The Tribune contacted her over phone.

Deputy SP Shamsher Singh Dahiya, who is conducting the probe, said the police were trying to find out who created these pages, as these could be misused to harm the reputation of police, the government or the former SP.

A Facebook page “Sangeeta Kalia Community” had attracted 5,118 likes by 8.41 pm on Sunday.

The page has a number of pictures of the former Fatehahad SP in uniform. On the page, someone has posted a message to Sangeeta Kalia from Justice Markandey Katju, a former Supreme Court judge, where Katju is seen using harsh words for Vij and telling the former SP that the whole country is with her.

Katju had posted this message on his own page with a heading “Will anybody forward this message to Sangeeta Kalia.”

There are many other messages on this and other pages, expressing solidarity with the police officer and castigating the minister.

The second page “Sangeeta Kalia IPS Fans Government Official” had received 2,057 likes by 8.40 pm. This page again shows the message from Justice Katju and some news relating to the Vij–Sangeeta Kalia episode.

Another page on Facebook “Sangeeta Kalia IPS Government Official” has attracted 883 likes by 8.40 pm. “IPS Officer Sangeeta Kalia cleared Civil Service Exam in the 3rd attempt and fulfilled her dream of becoming an IPS Officer. Recently SP of Fatehabad,” the FB page describes her.

The fourth one, a Facebook ID in the name of “Sangeeta Kalia” has attracted 1,835 followers. This ID has two friends – both women.

The number of likes on the pages was increasing at a fast pace as 4,900 people had liked the page “Sangeeta Kalia Community” by 6 pm – an increase of 78 likes in a matter of 10 minutes.

Sangeeta Kalia thanks people of Fatehabad

IPS officer Sangeeta Kalia thanked people for their cooperation during her 10-month stint in Fatehabad. Sangeeta Kalia has not so far spoken to the media ever since she had a tiff with Health Minister Anil Vij in a meeting of the District Grievances Committee after she refused to leave when the minister’s asked her to “get out”.

Kalia, who has since been transferred to 4th IRB, Manesar, said in a press release issued here today that she received huge support from people, officers, officials, mediapersons and members of the NGO Prayas which is active in drug de-addiction programme.

She said she will always remember her stay at Fatehabad and wished good luck to all.
