The State Information Commission has issued a show-cause notice to two State Public Information Officers (SPIOs) of Indira Gandhi University (IGU) at Meerpur village in the district for delay in furnishing information sought under the RTI Act by Dr Pinki, an assistant professor in Commerce Department of the university.

Information Commissioner Yoginder Paul Gupta in the notice has asked SPIO Mahabir Barak and deemed SPIO-cum-Deputy Registrar (Establishment) MM Kaushik to show cause as to why penalty of Rs 250 subject to maximum of Rs 25,000 be not imposed upon them for not furnishing the sought information within the stipulated period of 30 days under Section 20 (1) of the RTI Act.

Sources said both the SPIOs had been directed to submit the reply by June 22.

“I filed a complaint with the university authorities regarding unlawful allotment of residential accommodations, but the authorities, instead of getting it inquired, sought explanation from me within three days in reply to the complaint with an intention to mount undue pressure on me,” said Dr Pinki.

She said: “I, thereafter, moved an application with the university authorities on November 21 last year and urged the authorities to furnish me information pertaining to my explanation within 48 hours while considering it as the most urgent so that I could file reply to the explanation notice in due time.”
