The government has decided to replicate the success of its online teacher transfer policy in departments having a sanctioned strength of over 500 employees.

The office of Chief Secretary, in a communication to all administrative secretaries, heads of government, managing directors of boards and corporations and DCs, has set December 25 as the deadline for completing formalities to roll out the policy.

A senior functionary said the policy would go a long way in checking the discretion of ministers and senior bureaucrats as a transparent institutional mechanism would be put in place in the respective departments.

Earlier this year, the government had taken strong exception to delay on the part of 14 departments to implement the policy, apparently on account of administrative apathy.

The policy in these departments was to be made operational with effect from April 1, 2018. However, red tape took its toll on it as only a few departments partially implemented the policy.

Those partially rolling out the policy included the Director General of Jail Department, Engineer-in-Chief of Public Health Department, Director General of Animal Husbandry Department, Director of School Education, Engineer-in-Chief of PWD, Director General of Transport, Director General of Higher Education and Director General of Skill Development and Industrial Training.
