Haryana is all set to move from manual to high-tech road sweeping. With a view to introduce scientific road sweeping across the state, the BJP government in the state is set to purchase 44 state-of-the art road-sweeping machines.
“Till now, the civic bodies across the state had been resorting to manual road sweeping. As a result, roads were not being cleaned properly. However, these truck-mounted vacuum sweeping machines will go a long way in providing better sanitation in urban areas,” Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain said.
In the first phase, these machines are set to be put to operation in all 10 municipal corporations and 18 municipal councils across the state. While Gurugram and Faridabad are set to be allotted five sweeping machines each, the other municipal corporations of Sonepat, Rohtak, Panipat, Karnal, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Panchkula and Hisar would be allocated two truck-mounted sweeping machines each.
An official said that one sweeping machine each would be given to 18 municipal councils — Gohana, Thanesar, Kaithal, Bahadurgarh, Sohna, Palwal, Hodal, Rewari, Narnaul, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Hansi, Fatehabad, Tohana, Sirsa, Mandi Dabwali, Jind and Narwana.
He said each sweeping machine would cover 3-4 km per hour and could be put to use for up to 12 hours. On an average, around 30 km of roads are set to be cleaned by one sweeping machine. The vehicles would be GPS-monitored.
Officials said the machines had a vacuum along with broom-like bristles to clean roads. Dust on the sides of the road is removed by the bristles of the round automated broom and is thereby pulled inside the machine by powerful vacuum, making the city roads dust-free, the official added.
