The Municipal Corporation (MC) has formed a team of six officials to ensure the upkeep of public toilets in the CM’s city.

There are 120 public and 27 community toilets in the city. The MC is getting complaints that most of the toilets are either locked or non-functional.

Taking note on the complaints, MC Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav constituted the team. “Executive Engineer (XEN) Satish Sharma, Municipal Engineers Sunil Bhalla and Satish Mittal, Junior Engineers Varun Sharma and Ram Niwas, and a sanitary inspector are the part of the team,” Yadav said.

The team members have been instructed to conduct a survey to prepare a report. Accordingly, they will get all toilets functional in a week.

The team will coordinate with Sulabh International, a social service organisation which works to promote environmental sanitation, to take up some of the toilets on rent. The remaining ones would be under the MC, the Commissioner said.

He added the MC would issue a short-term tender to hire an agency to maintain the toilets.

The toilets will remain open for the public between 6 am and 10 pm.
