Chandigarh, September 20

Eminent sports personalities on Friday batted for BJP ticket for Assembly elections. They demanded adequate representation for sports personalities in ticket allocation.

“We have proven our mettle in the sports arena. Sportspersons will excel equally on the political front if given a chance by the BJP to fight elections,” said Chetan Sharma, former Test cricketer and BJP’s sports cell convener.

The government’s sports initiatives, including cash awards, had gone a long way in the promotion of sports in the state, said Babita Phogat, Commonwealth gold medallist wrestler.

Sports personalities must be given representation as they would prove to be better legislators on account of their discipline and sense of duty towards the nation, said Suraj Pal Ammu, Haryana Football Association president.
