Gurugram, September 18

A Dalit youth was allegedly thrashed by residents of the district’s Khandsa village on Tuesday night. As his sister tried to intervene, she was also allegedly assaulted and threatened with rape. An FIR was registered at the Sector 37 police station here.

Tempo driver Ravinder was outside his house when 12 villagers armed with sticks and attacked him.

In his police complaint, he said: “I asked them the reason for beating me up, but they did not answer. They passed casteist slurs against me. When my sister tried to intervene and save me, they assaulted her and threatened to rape her. It was only when some neighbours gathered at the spot that the accused fled.”

Ravinder was admitted to hospital. The police have recorded his statement.

A case was registered against Bhuru, Lalit, Sandeep, Sunder, Pradeep, Neeraj and others. — TNS
