Gurugram, September 17

Out to woo defence personnel, Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh declared on Tuesday that he would proudly sport his father and grandfather’s medals to express his respect to Army men.

“Narendra Modi government has tried to honour your service and sacrifice with one rank, one pension and increased number of jobs for dependants. I just got to know that I could wear medals of my father and grandfather. I will do so and will be able to symbolically express respect and honour for our forces,” he said.

Addressing a public meeting in Gurugram, he said the Haryana Government had given families of martyrs of the 1962 war their due by giving them jobs. “While only 48 dependants got jobs in the state in the last 40 years, the number increased to 292 in the last five years,” he said. Retired defence personnel demanded one ticket for an ex-serviceman. — TNS
