Karnal, August 25

The long wait of the pharma sector of the region is over as the state government has sanctioned a budget of Rs 50 crore for a pharma park. It will be developed on 100 acres in Karnal district.

Karnal Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (KPMA) will purchase the land and give it to Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) for the development of the park.

After developing the park, the HSIIDC will further hand over it to the association. “The state government has sanctioned a budget of Rs 50 crore which will be transferred to the HSIIDC for the development of the pharma park,” said RL Sharma, president, KPMA.

The association has shortlisted three lands — one each in Bastara, Taraori and Kachwa. After the finalisation of land, the association will seek consent from the Industry Department. “We have shortlisted lands in three locations and soon, we will finalise one of them. We are hopeful that the association will purchase the required land by the end of September,” Sharma said.

With the aim to make the country self-sufficient in medicine production and reducing its cost along with generating employment, former Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers HN Ananth Kumar had announced this park on May 16, 2017, in Murthal.

In May 2018, the Chief Minister had also reiterated the announcement.
