Karnal, August 20

Karnal Mayor Renu Bala Gupta today accused the officials of the Municipal Corporation (MC) of not giving her due importance.

She alleged she has not been called for the meetings related to the smart city project. “I don’t know what is going on…I am not being involved in the smart city project. Today, a meeting was organised for the presentation of an integrated command and control centre, but neither me nor the councillors have been informed about it,” the Mayor said.

Refuting the allegations, MC Commissioner Rajiv Mehta said it was a meeting about a technical presentation by the companies, which have bid for the project. The financial bid of the project would be opened on Friday. “The special purpose vehicle of Karnal Smart City Limited has called the meeting, in which politicians cannot be invited. ACS Anand Mohan Sharan chaired the meeting, I, as the KMC CEO, DC, SP and other officials attended it. There is some misunderstanding (on the Mayor’s absence),” he said.
