Faridabad, July 22

A convict lodged in the district jail at Neemka village here reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself inside the washroom of his barrack in the wee hours on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Santosh Kumar (28). He hanged himself by tying a shirt to a grille of the bathroom of his barrack around 1 am. He had been lodged here since March 30 after he was convicted by the district court in a case of dacoity and murder in Surajkund in August 2016.

He had earlier been convicted in two cases of dacoity in Gurugram. He was sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment on March 26 last year. The convict was reportedly unhappy with the circumstances at home after his conviction and had been under stress after he was shifted here, said sources. — TNS
