Man drowns in canal, villagers hold protest

KARNAL: A man drowned in the Western Yamuna Canal on Monday after he took his livestock there for bathing.

A man drowned in the Western Yamuna Canal on Monday after he took his livestock there for bathing. Demanding the construction of a ghat near the village, residents placed his body near the canal.

They said two boys of the village drowned in the canal on Saturday. Following an assurance by the police and Irrigation Department, they lifted the body. The authorities assured them that a ghat would be constructed within three months.

As per information, Naresh Kumar (29) took his livestock to the canal for bathing. He was swept away by the high current. Passersby fished out his body.

Madhuban SHO Tarshem Singh said the Irrigation Department had assured them on construction of a ghat within three months. — TNS
