Jhajjar, July 16

The miscreants who attacked Salochna Rani Nehra (63), wife of a retired Colonel and Krishi Ratna recipient, have yet to be arrested. They attacked the progressive farmer and some others outside her farmhouse in Naugaon village on June 30.

Jhajjar SP Rajesh Kumar had provided her security cover by deputing a gunman after she approached him. Salochna’s son, Lt Col Vikram Nehra, urged the Chief Minister to ensure the arrest of the miscreants through Twitter.

“Four youths of the same village gathered outside my farmhouse and started consuming liquor on the roadside. They were talking in abusive language. When our partner Pawan requested them not to use abusive language, they thrashed him. They barged into Pawan’s house on the farmhouse. His brother and a relative received injuries while his wife saved herself,” said Salochna.

She said the youths hit her with an iron rod when she intervened. “I received several stitches in the head. I am unable to work properly. The police booked the youths, but failed to arrest them even after 15 days. My son has urged the Chief Minister to get them arrested,” she said.

Salochna said her son was the family’s fifth generation in the Army and she was felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Krishi Ratna during the World Culture Festival organised by the Art of Living Foundation in 2016. “What can you expect from the Haryana Police when they cannot arrest assailants of an elderly woman who is wife of a retired Army officer and a progressive farmer,” she added. Salhavaas SHO Suresh Kumar said the accused were absconding and raids were being conducted at their possible hideouts.
