Rohtak, May 24

The newly elected BJP MP from Bhiwani-Mahendragarh, Dharambir Singh, has expressed hope that the party would repeat its Lok Sabha performance in the forthcoming Assembly elections under the leadership of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

He has defeated his nearest rival and Congress nominee Shruti Choudhry by 4,44,463 votes, increasing his victory margin by more than 3 lakh votes. In the 2014 General Election, he had defeated Shruti by 1,29,394 votes.

Dharambir credited his victory to PM Narendra Modi. He polled 63.45 per cent of the votes, while Shruti got 25.17 per cent.

Shruti’s mother, CLP Leader Kiran Choudhry, however, said they had accepted the people’s mandate with humility. “We have been doing our best for the people of our constituency and will continue to serve them to the best of our ability,” she said. — TNS
