Faridabad, May 19

The repolling in booth number 88 of Palwal’s Asavati village of Faridabad Lok Sabha seat went off peacefully on Sunday. The repoll was ordered following reports of poll agent Giriraj influencing voters during the May 12 voting. The turnout was recorded at 65.61 per cent.

“The polling went off as per the plan prepared by the district administration,” said Ashok Kumar Garg, Returning Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner. He and Sanjay Kumar, observer of the Election Commission (EC), visited the polling station to ensure no untoward incident took place. An adequate number of security personnel and police, and two Duty Magistrates were deployed at the polling booth.

Congress candidate Avtar Singh Bhadana and BSP candidate Mandhir Maan also visited the booth. They had alleged rigging in the booth on May 12, following which Giriraj and the presiding officer were arrested and a case registered. Then DC Atul Kumar Diwedi was shifted.
