Youth killed, another hurt in attack

JHAJJAR: A youth was shot dead and his friend was injured in an attack by a group of assailants near the district’s Khungai village on Tuesday.

A youth was shot dead and his friend was injured in an attack by a group of assailants near the district’s Khungai village on Tuesday. The assailants fled after perpetrating the crime.

The deceased has been identified as Padam (26) of Khungai village. He was an accused in a murder case and was out on bail.

His friend, Ajay, has been admitted to the Civil Hospital here. His condition is said to be out of danger.

The police have booked 10 residents of Khungai village in connection with the incident. An old enmity is said to be the reason behind the attack.

A group of assailants opened indiscriminate firing on a car, in which Padam, Ajay and another of their friend Aman were travelling, on the outskirts of the village.

Sources said Padam disembarked from the car and ran towards the fields, but assailants chased him and shot him from a close range. He died on the spot. They allegedly kidnapped Aman. Ajay suffered gunshot injuries. On getting information, the police took him to hospital.

Investigating officer Ramesh Chander said efforts were on to arrest the accused.
