Hisar, April 21

Farmers from 17 villages in Charkhi Dadri district have threatened to boycott the BJP candidates in their villages. They have served a week’s ultimatum to the state government to consider their demand for enhanced compensation for their land for the proposed green corridor to be set up in the region.

Farmers held a panchayat at Makdana village of Charkhi Dadri district and said they have been raising the demand to get compensation for the proposed land acquisition at the rate of Rs2 crore per acre for the green corridor. They said they have been sitting on dharna since February 26 in support of their demands.

Suresh Kumar, a farmer who was presiding over the panchayat, said after a week, they would not let any BJP leader enter any of these villages to campaign for their candidates. “The region is one of the most backward pockets in the state. We have been struggling for bare minimum amenities,”he said.
