Kumari Selja, Congress candidate from Ambala, on Wednesday asked the BJP how it could question the Congress’ promise to partially revoke Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Jammu and Kashmir after Narendra Modi government revoked AFSPA in Meghalaya and Tripura.

Selja was in Panchkula district to address a series of party workers’ meetings. She alleged that Modi government had made the situation very complex in the militancy-hit state.

She said the Congress was not in favour of revoking AFSPA completely. She asserted that AFSA would remain in force in border areas. She claimed that Modi was diverting attention by criticising the Congress manifesto.

She alleged that the Centre had not initiated any development projects in Jammu and Kashmir. She said people wanted development, which could have helped creating jobs for the local youth to bring them into the mainstream.

She pointed out that Modi-led BJP government was in power at the Centre and had been in alliance with the PDP in the militancy-hit state. She said had they initiated development projects, the situation would have been under control to some extent. She claimed that Modi had failed to fulfil promises made in the 2014 elections. She said demonetisation and GST had hit the common man.
