Chandigarh, December 17

The Haryana Government has told the High Court that unrecognised schools will not be allowed to carry on with admissions from the 2019-20 academic session. The HC was also told that a decision had been taken not to grant extension beyond the present academic session to those existing schools, the recognition of which had not been finalised by the department concerned.

In an affidavit submitted in the High Court, it was stated that a meeting was held on July 20 under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister regarding unrecognised schools in the state. It was decided to collect the database of each school related to land and building.

“There are lakhs of students in these schools and it will not be appropriate to close down the schools mid-session in the interest of students. The state authorities will take appropriate action and coercive measures against these schools during the current academic session and no such school will be allowed to make admissions in the next academic session,” the affidavit read.

The HC was also told that that the respondent department would initiate the action of closing down such schools by sending a list of unauthorised schools to field officers and Deputy Commissioners. Such schools would be given a common notice to invite objections.
