The Centre will announce a new industrial policy to boost development in the rural areas, said Union Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu, while presiding over a function under the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan at Lohsinghani village on Tuesday.

Prabhu said the policy would focus on promoting industrial units in rural areas. The policy would be announced soon, he said, adding suggestions were sought from CM to finalise the policy.

“With new policy, we will be able to revolutionise the rural standard of living by establishing small-scale industries. Emphasis will be laid on linking of self-help groups and co-operative institutions with small-scale industries and global supply chains,” he said. — TNS
