An incident of alleged molestation of girls by a motorcyclist in a residential locality at Gohana on Wednesday evening took an ugly turn when the residents closed the main bazaar of the town and organised a protest against the police outside the police post at Samata Chawk in Gohana town of the district on Thursday.

According to information, a youth used to come to the residential locality of the main bazar every evening on motorcycle to misbehave and molest girls and young women moving on the road. Last evening, his movements as well as motorcycle registration number were captured in CCTV cameras and he was identified.

Residents of the locality reached the police post and lodged a complaint against the youth. After registering a case under the POCSO Act, the youth was arrested and was handed over to three citizens of the residential colony.

On Thursday, parents of the youth met the residents, begged pardon for the son’s activities and both the parties agreed on a compromise.

In the meantime, two rumours spread in the town. One about foul language used by the Additional SP during a phone call with former Municipal Counsellor Ved Prakash Mehta and second about the alleged misbehaviour of a havildar and a woman constable in police post with the girls who had gone to the police post to record their statements against the youth.

In protest against these two issues, people assembled outside the police post on Thursday, forced the shopkeepers to close their shops in the main bazaar and some of them sat on a dharna.

However, the matter was resolved after Additional SP Narender Bijarnia reached the spot, clarified the misunderstanding and assured of an inquiry into the complaints.
